Tarasova: “Who should I hit in the face? Shventek was given one month, but Valieva was disqualified for life.”
Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova spoke sharply about the short disqualification of Polish tennis player Iga Szwiatek for violating anti-doping rules.
On Thursday, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported that world number two Schwiatek tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine.
– What kind of justice should we expect, where should we complain, who should we hit in the face? The tennis player is given one month, but Kamila, this child, is essentially disqualified for life.
This is injustice, I want their children to experience the same thing as Valieva,” the Match TV website quotes Tarasova as saying.
Schwiatek publicly admitted to violating anti-doping rules and accepted a sanction of one month’s disqualification. The period of disqualification of the Polish athlete expires on December 4. The International Tennis Integrity Agency acknowledged that the positive test was caused by contamination of an over-the-counter drug (melatonin) produced and sold in Poland that the 23-year-old tennis player was taking for jet lag and sleep problems, and that the violation was therefore not was intentional.
At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport disqualified figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The Russian woman’s suspension period starts on December 25, 2021, and her results have been canceled since that date. The athlete was also deprived of gold medals at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing in the team tournament and the 2022 European Championships. Trimetazidine was found in the athlete’s sample.
