Myskina – about the doping found in the samples of Sinner and Shventek: “Why do some miss a month, while others miss several years?”

Russian tennis player Anastasia Myskina said she does not understand why Italian Jannik Sinner and Poland’s Iga Szwiatek received short suspensions for doping.

In late November, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported that Schwiatek tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine in August. A decision was made that there was no significant fault or negligence on the part of the athlete, and she was suspended for one month. In August, the ITIA announced that Sinner had tested positive for two drugs in March. He avoided disqualification because he proved that the banned substance clostebol entered his body by accident.

— The topic of doping is now being actively discussed between Sinner and Šwiętek. Has your attitude towards them changed?

— I don’t welcome categorical attitude towards them. I would like to know all the details of the case. There are various doping cases similar to these, but with different “sentences”. This is what I don’t understand. Why do some skip a month, while others skip several years? Regardless of all factors, they remain great players.

— Is there any pattern that the first and second rackets of the world were caught doping?

– There is no pattern. We all make mistakes,” Match TV quotes Myskina as saying.

At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules; trimetazidine was found in her sample, just like Schventek. All Valieva’s results since December 25, 2021 have been cancelled.
