The last Russian woman on US Open was simply taken out of the court. Katya had no chance

Aleksandrova could not provide hard resistance to Iga Schwentek.

At the opening championship of the United States – 2025 The attention of Russian fans was riveted to Ekaterina Alexandrova. The 12th racket of the world not only confidently passed the starting rounds, but also became the last representative of Russia in the female grid.

The tournament in New York is traditionally not easy for our players, but Alexandrova managed to break through in the second week of the competition, showing one of the best results in her career on a large helmet.

Confident start and breakthrough in the 1/8 finals

The first rival of the Russian woman on US Open was the Latvian tennis player Anastasia Sevastova, who once entered the top 15 of the world ranking. Aleksandrova coped with this test without any problems – 6: 4, 6: 1. In the second circle, she was waiting for a meeting with the Chinese woman van Xinyu, who takes 34th place in the ranking. And again, Catherine acted confidently, completing the match with a score of 6: 2, 6: 2.

The culmination of the first week was the game against the German Laura Siegemund. Alexandrova spent her in an aggressive manner and did not leave her opponent a single chance – 6: 0, 6: 1. Such a victory not only allowed me to go to the fourth circle, but also emphasized: Catherine added to stability and is now ready to fight the leaders of world tennis.

Alexandrova herself noted that she had ceased to be afraid of the third circle, which used to become a psychological barrier for her.

– Previously, I could win two matches, and in the third there was always a feeling that now I could go further, but I did not work. Next, the same thing happened. The fact that I play in the third round was constantly in my head. You don’t want this to be repeated, but it happens. However, when I finally won three matches at Roland Garros – 2025, I overcame the barrier and took a step forward. Something clicked in my head. I no longer have such a problem, so I can continue to play, – quotes Alexander Tennis.com.

History of rivalry with Iga Schweep

In the 1/8 finals, Aleksandrov was waiting for the test much more serious – a meeting with Igo Shventek, a six -time champion of the large helmet tournaments and the second racket of the world. Polka is steadily among the favorites of any tournament.

Before the match in New York, the balance of personal meetings was 4-2 in favor of the sluts. Aleksandrova won in Melbourne (2021) and Miami (2024), but in other cases, Polka took the top-including recently, on the grass in Bad Hamourg. For Catherine, this was a chance to reduce the lag and for the first time in his career to go to the quarterfinals of US Open.

Break Shventek, who changed everything

The match began in an equal struggle. Already in the starting gamies, the rivals exchanged breaks – 1: 1. Aleksandrova tried to aggressively act at the reception, loaded the Forend Schwhentek, but the Polka quickly adapted and took control of the game.

The key was the seventh game when the shcrets imposed long draws and squeezed the opponent, making a break – 4: 3. After that, the yoke acted more relaxed, confidently kept the serving and, in the end, once again took the game on the Russian woman’s feed. Seth ended with a score of 6: 3 in favor of the second racket of the world, which she needed only 31 minutes.

Aleksandrova in the first batch showed a good percentage of first filing, but there were too many errors in protracted draws.

The confident game of iga

In the second set, the situation for the Russians became more complicated. After an equal start and account 1: 1, the ships sharply added in motion and aggression. The yoke began to play more confidently, added the depths of the blows and literally swayed the opponent’s defense.

Aleksandrova tried to stay in the game, but twice allowed annoying oversights on the Break Punts-one of them was the result of a double error. Already by the fifth gam, the score was 1: 4, and catching the Polish was almost impossible.

The final chord was a draw on the supply of shcuits with a score of 5: 1. The yoke with a powerful blow to the left along the line completed the match and arranged the victory – 6: 3, 6: 1.

The meeting lasted only 57 minutes. Aleksandrova noted with three Aises, made three double errors and realized the only Break Point. This was not enough to impose the struggle of the second racket of the world. Schwepenka made six ais, I made a mistake three times on the presentation, but at the same time I realized four Break-point from seven.

For Ekaterina Alexandrova, US Open – 2025 ended at the stage of the fourth circle. Despite the defeat, her performance in New York can be considered successful: the Russian woman again confirmed her status of the top-level tennis player and became the last representative of the country in the tournament.
