Mirra Andreeva destroys her rivals on the way to the title. A battle with a friend is ahead

The best tennis player in Russia is simply unstoppable.

Mirra Andreeva is spending a brilliant week in Adelaide. After a confident start at the WTA 500 tournament, our athlete also defeated the best local tennis player.

Two steps to the title!

“With her I became closer to fearlessness”

Andreeva is confidently moving towards the title at the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide, Australia. Here she only managed to play one match, since she started from the second round. But the victory over the experienced Maria Bouzkova turned out to be very convincing. The Russian took 11 of the last 13 games, beating the Czech with a score of 6:3, 6:1. At the same time, it was clear that Mirra was in an excellent mood. She even joked with coach Conchita Martinez, not forgetting to thank her for her progress.

“With her, I became closer to fearlessness.” I’ve never volleyed on match point before. Here I decided: why not? – Andreeva said after defeating Bouzkova.

In the quarterfinals, Mirra was up against Australia’s strongest tennis player, Maya Joynt, who at 19 years old is showing the best results in her career and is ranked 32nd in the WTA rankings. The task for Andreeva was further complicated by the fact that the Australian was playing on her home court in front of almost full stands. It is not difficult to guess on whose side the public’s sympathies were.

Destruction of a local favorite

Already in the first game, a serious fight ensued on Joint’s serve. Mirra had four break points, but was unable to convert them due to a large number of errors. Having warmed up, the Russian still made a break in the third game, without giving up a single point to her opponent. If it weren’t for the lost serve in the sixth game, Andreeva’s set could have been considered perfect. But even the Australian’s break did not prevent our tennis player from winning – 6:2.

At the beginning of the second set, Andreeva did not slow down her activity, as often happens with her, but immediately began to put pressure on her opponent and force her to make mistakes. After losing the game on her serve, Maya completely wilted and looked helpless. Mirra simply psychologically suppressed her opponent, placing blows along the lines of incredible accuracy. The next five games were marked by complete dominance of the Russians. Mirra deservedly gave the Joint the steering wheel – 6:0.

In the semi-finals, Andreeva will face a difficult confrontation, and not only from the point of view of her opponent’s level. Mirra will have a battle with another Russian, Diana Schneider, with whom she won silver at the 2024 Olympics in doubles. Although Mirra and Diana are performing with different partners this season, the girls remain close friends.
