Great qualifier for Collins
Daniele Collins advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open with a 2-0 set by Alize Corne, the match being decided in the first set.
At the Australian Open we had a fight for a set in the first quarter-final of the day (January 26). It was Daniele Collins (No. 30) who won 2-0 against Alize Cornet (No. 61) and secured the ticket for the semi-finals.
The match was essentially scored in the first set. The French took advantage of the problems the American was having at service and stayed alive longer in the match.
Collins was the one who got the first break to go 3-1, but Corne responded in the ninth game and then served to make it 5-5. In the end, the set ended with the superior Collins, who went on to make it 7-5 with a second break.
It is worth noting that the American scored 7 breaks in the first set, of which she only used two, while the French did.
In the second set, Collins found a first serve and things got easier for her. She managed to salvage the two break points created by Korne, capitalizing on the two break points she created to close the set 6-1 and together, ticket to the semis.
