Great qualification of Panathinaikos in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup with a win in the “Golden Set” against Teruel
Panathinaikos found them dismal against the hard-fought Teruel, but managed a terrific win-qualifier in the Challenge Cup semi-finals, beating the Spaniards in the ‘golden set’ (losing 3-0 in the regular season).
Despite seeing Teruel on a very good night, Panathinaikos survived the “golden set” and qualified for the semifinals CEV Challenge Cup with a 3-1 draw in the first game in Athens. The Greens lost 3-0 sets in regular time, but dynamically returned to the “golden set” and qualified for victory with valuable solutions from Stalekar and Van de Dries.
In the semi-finals they meet the very strong team of Halkbank from Turkey, with the first game being played away from home. The Greens have made a dynamic return to European competitions and are now continuing their journey after a magnificent win in Spain against a formidable opponent like Teruel.
The race
As in the first game in Athens, Teruel came into play more strongly on Spanish soil. The Spaniards pressed down on the greens with their service weapon and this caused them to start building a difference from the start of the set.
Panathinaikos’ reception and block defense didn’t work and Teruel quickly got away with 6 points (17-11). Andreopoulos’ players temporarily closed the gap but failed to threaten the Spaniards who finished the first set 25-21.
The start of the second set was different. Panthinaikos had a better image, improved the block and his service, resulting in him having a small lead early in the set.
But again, through his services, the Spaniards managed to turn the situation around. Piti and Ereu spoiled the shot for the greens and so Teruel won the set with 25:21 and set it to 2:0.
In the third set, the Spaniards maintained a small lead of 2-3 points and despite Panathinaikos’ efforts to get back into the game, mainly attacks from the middle, Teruel had excellent defense and an effective block, leading the game and qualifying for the ” Golden Set”: Take the set at 25:20 and make it 3:0.
In a leap of one breath, the two teams put on a dynamic punch and the blood ignited after a breach by Panathinaikos that gave the Spaniards a three-point lead. The difference disappeared with Andreopoulos’ initiatives, but Stalekar was the one who judged the match with an ace to finish the qualification Rangel with a place and give the signal for the furious celebration of the Greens.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

In the Women’s Super League, Minsk in the away match of the 17th round defeated the Zarechye-Odintsovo team with a score of 3-2 (15:25, 22:25, 25:21, 25:15, 15:7).

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
The leader in the table is Zenit Kazan (16 wins, 45 points), Zenit from St. Petersburg (14 wins, 43 points) is second.
