League Cup Volleyball: Aristotelis Skydras won 3-0 against Athlos Orestiada in the eighth round
Aristotelis Skydras secured the final ticket to the quarter-finals of the Men’s Volleyball League Cup after beating Athlos Orestiada 3-0.
Athlos Orestiada, making his debut in the League Cup, Nikos Samaras made the big break. In the final match of the qualifying tournament, which ended in the gym, Alexandros Nikolaidis of Polichni FES defeated Aristotelis Skydras to take 2nd place with 3-0 sets and two wins in three matches to secure qualification for the quarterfinals of the competition behind Pegasos Polichnis. In the Quarterfinals, Athlos Orestiada meets AOFinika’s ONEX Syros.
Athlos’ dominance was more difficult than the final result shows as Aristotelis fought the match and especially the 2nd and 3rd sets which were decided on points.
However, the Evros team had better solutions after the halftimes of the three sets and made the fewest mistakes in the final attempt with a better block defense. The leaders were Rizopoulos, Gladstone and Kayo.
The first half of the 1st set was uneventful, but three consecutive aces from Glandshawn increased the lead to 17-12. The lead held and Genoff finished the set 25-19 for a 1-0 set.
A big fight took place in the 2nd set, with the combative Aristotle leading 13-11 with Paleologos and the judges’ error. Paleologos maintained the 16-14 difference but Athlos came back with leader Rizopoulos making difficult attacks and bringing up the surprise, backed by Kaio, Genov. With Genoff’s block, Athlos took a 20-18 lead, but Aristoteles equalized at 20-20 with Tsioutsiouludi’s missed serve and Sarikeisoglou’s ace. Kayo, Gladstone and Rizopoulos put on an excellent 3-0 run after Genov’s serve took a 24-21 lead. Kaio’s mistake reduced Aristoteles to 24-23, but Paleologos lost serve to finish the set 25-23 for Athlos, who made the set 2-0.
The reverse set was the 3. Although Athlos came into play strongly at 9-4 after Gladstone’s excellent service gave them a 4-0 run. Then it was Rizopoulos’ turn to press serve and build a 3-0 run of his own for 15-9. And while Athlos was leading 19-14 and everything seemed decided, Aristotelis played more freely and with a long 7-0 run thanks to Sarikeisoglou’s serve and Palaiologos and Sdraukakis finishes he overtook to take a 21-19 lead and 22- 20 Tsitsioutsiouloudis with a critical block on Sdraukakis, Genov with a counterattack, Kayo with a counterattack and Sdraukakis’ error gave Athlos a valuable 4-0 run to reach the match bowl 24:22. Rizopoulos lost on serve (24-23) and Genoff finished the match 25-23 and the set 3-0.

Pegasus made 3/3
Pegasos Polichni qualified for the quarter-finals of the Nikos Samaras League Cup with three wins in as many matches in the qualifying group played at the Alexandros Nikolaidis Gymnasium in Polichni. Heraklis Theodoros’ side also defeated OFI 3-0 sets to secure first place in the group they faced AONS Speaking of the round of 16 of the Nikos Samaras League Cup with three wins in as many games.
Pegasos Polichnis had a pressing service and plenty of solutions in attack, with Apostolos Armenakis delivering a recital with 11/16 attacks, 3 blocks and 1 ace for a total of 15 points, making him the top scorer on his side.
OFI also competed in this match without its foreigners. He was superior in the block, but lagged behind in reception and especially offensively, as the efficiency reached only 34%.
Pegasos managed a 3-0 run in the first set after 8-8 with Armenakis as the protagonist. The difference was maintained and when Mavrovouniotis served he damaged OFI’s reception and with a renewed 4-0 run by Armenakis, Terzoglou saw the Polichni team escape 24-17.
The most ambiguous was the set where Pegasos came into play strongly with a 6-2 lead after attacks from Milis, Mavrovouniotis and Armenakis. Vaiopoulos and Kafantaris grabbed OFI, leveled the match and took a 17-16 lead with Vaiopoulos’ block. A point-to-point rally followed. Mavrovouniotis made it 24-23 and with Gona’s missed serve it was 24-23. Terzoglou gave Pegasus a 25-24 lead again and the set ended with Milis attacking and Canellos blocking Vaiopoulos.
After the 2-0 set, Pegasus completely dominated. He led 9-2 with the services of Komitoudis, Mavrovouniotis. The difference was maintained as OFI had no offensive solutions and the game ended with an attack from Terzoglou.

Volleyball players of Kazan “Zenith” won the Russian Super Cup for the 11th time
Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv became the first finalist of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:13, 30:28).
In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.
The final match will take place on December 26.
