OFI – PAOK 1-3: Dikephalos with Voulkidis as the protagonist defeats the Cretans
PAOK, led by Theodoros Voulkidis, won a 3-1 set against OFI on Matchday 4 of Volley League and grabbed nine points.
PAOK, armed with the serve and the block and the great protagonist Theodoros Voulkidis, defeated OFI in a 3-1 set in Heraklion and achieved their third victory after Round 4 in Volley League. The double-header took 9 points while OFI suffered their third loss in the league.
PAOK had an impressive service performance with 6 aces in the 1st set alone and 11 overall. Van de Dries and Raptis stood out offensively, Sotiriou and Raptis picked up reception while Walsh made the difference in development. In general, with the exception of the blackout at 16:16 in the 3rd set, PAOK put in an excellent performance.
OFI started the match very poorly with poor reception and the quick loss of the 1st set. He gradually flattened out without ever raising his shot to a competitive level and unfortunately couldn’t repeat the good performance of the 3rd set and the reduction of the score to 1-2 sets.
PAOK came into play strongly and thanks to Voulkidis’ serve (he got two aces) they led 6-3 and 14-7 with the blocks of Voulkidis and Van de Dries. The +7 difference was maintained to the end and the match ended with Voulkidis’ first time for a 25-18.
The same picture in the 2nd set where PAOK at 9-9 started a 4-0 run with Voulkidis, Van de Dries and Sotiriou and came away 13-9. Without a good reception, OFI only managed to level the set and close the set at 25-19, with Shikoku’s missed serve resulting in the 0-2.
PAOK seemed to be in control in the third set as well, where Van de Dries gave up a small 10-8 lead after 7-7. PAOK led 14-13 last time out, but Shikoku with an attack and Vaiopoulos with a block gave OFI a 16-15 lead. Raptis equalized (16-16) and Shikuku with two attacks and Adami with Hira with two blocks for a 5-0 aggregate run and shot the difference to the 21-16. The sentence was closed by Jarvic’s recital 25-20 and 1-2 sentences.
Facing the possibility of getting into trouble, PAOK again pressed serve. He escaped 7-5 and with Rapti, Voulkidis went on a 4-0 run for 11-5. The +6 difference was not only maintained but also increased to +10 (21-11) thanks to the blocks of Costa, Rapti, while the match ended with the signature of Voulkidis who blocked 25-13 and 3-1 set.
