Olympiacos – Kifissia 3-0: Easy three points with a star for the red and white
With a solid performance from Toncek Stern, Olympiacos won 3-0 sets against Kifissia to remain at the top of the men’s volley league.
Starring Toncek Stern, Olympiacos defeated AOP Kifisias by a 3-0 set in the game that opened Round 7 of the Men’s Volley League Championship to lead the Volley League Championship race with 18 points. In the first set of the game, Olympiacos pressed from 9 meters and took a 8-4 lead with two aces from Payenk. Kifisia reacted and shortened it to 8-6 with Maikon’s block, but then the red-white “injured” the reception of the guests and got a clear difference to the 16-10.
Kostas Christofidelis’ players improved their performance, “gnawing” the difference and reducing it to 21-17, while a block from Cheivres and a smart place from Oksanovic also made it -2 (21-19). Despite Olympiacos being under pressure, he retained the lead and reached a triple bowl set with Hidalgo 24-21, which the home side finished with a counterattack by Dallakouras 25-21.
It was the home side who started better in the second set and took a 5-2 lead, but Kifisia recovered to equalize 5-5 after Okosanovic’s impressive block against Hidalgo. The Red-Whites, showing determination at net, retook the lead and even went 12-7 on consecutive points from Dallakouras. Olympiacos with consecutive points went 20-11, Kifisia with Siimitra and Maikon on serve reached 24-19 and Stern finished the set 25-19.
The picture of the game didn’t change in the 3rd set either, Olympiakos had…superpowers and took an early 5-1 lead with Stern’s powerful serves. The northern suburbs team temporarily fell 6-4, but Dallacura’s winning block opened the gap again to 10-5. A charge from Okosanovic drew Kifissia closer to 12-9, but after some time Payenk increased to 14-9.
The “Blue-Whites” showed “stubbornness” and returned to the set win with a 16:14 reduction with a counterattack from Okosanovic and a block from Maikon, while in the set development they gained a “breathing” distance with a place from Chevers 17 -16 The decisive factor in the final outcome of the match was Chandrinos’ successful block which gave Olympiacos a lead of 20-17.Kifisia couldn’t come back as Olympiakos won the set with consecutive aces from Stern 25-18.
