Panathinaikos kept Grothes and added Belia
Maret Grothes will play for Panathinaikos for another year. At the same time, the Greens began acquiring Marianna Belia.
Maret Grothes (1988, 1.80 m) will wear the Panathinaikos shirt for another season, the club announced.
“We’ve had another very good year with the team and I’m delighted to continue at Panathinaikos. Sometimes the hard part isn’t getting to the top, it’s staying at the top, and we’ve managed to do that. We are the best team in Greece and I will stay with the same will to remain the first federation and achieve all national goals with the best of our international commitments”, said the 35-year-old winger from the Netherlands after the contract extension.
At the same time, the Greens committed to signing Marianna Belia (1998, 1.65 m), who will compete as the second libero behind Penny Roga.
“I am very happy to play in a team like Panathinaikos who have been at the top for a few years! It is a great pleasure to be alongside such experienced athletes. Many thanks to the administration and the coach Mr. Kalmazidis for the trust. For my part, I will do my best to help the team achieve their goals and of course I wish them a healthy year!”said the 25-year-old, who played for AO Thira last year while wearing AEK’s shirt from 2014-2022.

Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.
In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.
