Pegasus Polichnis – Finikas 2:3: Stressful qualification for the Syrians in the final

Finikas Syros found it dark against the fighting Pegasus Polichnis, but finally prevailed with 3:2 sets and qualified for the cup final.

Few would have expected such a semi-final between Finikas Syros ONEX and Pegasus Polichnis, but in the end we enjoyed a rich spectacle from both teams.

The qualification finally went to the Syrians, who prevailed 3:2 after 2.5 hours of fighting. The reason we were led to this game was the image of Pegasus Polichnis.

The club from Thessaloniki had an excellent image and Milis in particular made a terrible match aggressively against his former team. Great work by Mavrovouniotis and Ephraimidis.

On the opposite bank, the Syrians qualified, but without Juric they seemed to have many problems. What finally got them the ticket to the finals was their service.

The game: The first set was taken from the dreams of the people of Pegasus Polichnis, since the players of Iraklis Theodoros did everything perfectly.

The two teams went up 15-15 together. At this point, Ephraimidis’ serve spoiled Finikas’ take, with the result that Pegasus ran up a split at 5-0 and then went on to conquer the first set at 25-19.

In the second set, Finikas was able to walk away with 6 points (5-11) thanks to Jerezuelo’s serve, but Pegasus managed to quickly close the difference and decrease the point (12-13). This time, however, the Syrians had the answers and managed to close the set 25-18.

The derby was the third set in which both teams went point to point up to 17:17. At that point, Stern’s serve changed the data and gave Finikas the lead.

The Syrians managed to escape with 17:21 and they laid the foundation for the 2:1 set, which they finally won with 25:20.

Anyone there would have expected Pegasus to abandon her, but she turned the sequel down. The Thessaloniki club stepped into the role of set-leader from the start, withstanding the pressure of Finikas’ performances with Jerezuelos and sending the game 25-21 into the fifth set.

There, too, Pegasus managed to take the lead to 10-8, but at that point Michalovic went to the service line and only left when the game ended at 10-15.
