European women’s volleyball: Athanasopoulos’ Czech Republic and Serbia in the round of 16
Serbia easily won a 3-0 set against Sweden, while Yannis Athanasopoulos’ Czech Republic beat Ukraine in a tie-break to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the European Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Serbia easily defeated Sweden while Yannis Athanasopoulos’ Czech Republic prevailed in Ukraine’s tie-breaker to complete the quarter-finals.
Serbia kept Bela Haak in attack at 31% while Tijana Boskovic had 62% and easily qualified for the last 8 where they will meet the Czech Republic.
Yannis Athanasopoulou’s team led 2-0, but Ukraine reduced their and Orvosova’s errors by leveling to 2-2 and leading 2-4 in the tie-break until Mihaela Mleinkova spoke up.
The new Olympiakos winger managed the 6:4 win with three attacks and a block and reached the Czech streak to 7:0 (9:4). Ukraine fell to 11-9 where they lost a double count and narrowed the difference to one point, with Havelkova providing solutions for the Czech Republic who made it 14-9. The first three match points were lost, Ukraine had a new counter to get closer to the point but couldn’t finish it and Kvelkova made the final score 15:12.

Volleyball players of Kazan “Zenith” won the Russian Super Cup for the 11th time
Kazan “Zenit” became the winner of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
On Friday, the Kazan team beat Lokomotiv from Novosibirsk – 3-1 (25:19, 25:17, 23:25, 25:21).
Zenit won the Russian Super Cup for the third year in a row. In total, the Kazan team has a record 11 victories in the tournament. Lokomotiv took part in the decisive matches for the trophy four times, but were defeated each time.
For the first time in history, the Russian Super Cup was held in the Final Four format. All meetings took place in St. Petersburg.

Kazan “Zenit” reached the final of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup
Kazan “Zenit” defeated “Zenith” from St. Petersburg in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:17, 18:25, 23:25, 15:12) in favor of the Kazan team.
In the other semi-final earlier on Thursday, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk defeated Dynamo Moscow in four sets.
The final match between Lokomotiv and Zenit will take place on Friday, starting at 19:30 Moscow time.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv became the first finalist of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals of the Russian Volleyball Super Cup among men’s teams.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:13, 30:28).
In the other semi-final, which will take place later on Thursday, St. Petersburg and Kazan Zenit will meet.
The final match will take place on December 26.
