League Cup Volleyball: Pegasus took first place in qualification with a surprise against Athlos
Pegasos Polichnis defeated Athlos in Orestiada with a magnificent turnaround of 0-2 sets by 3-2 sets and took first place in the group of the A phase of the Nikos Samaras League Cup.
Yiannis Orfanos’ team took first place in the group and will host AONS Milon in the quarterfinals. On the contrary, Athlos Orestiada is being tested at PAOK headquarters.
The game had two different faces. In the first two sets, Athlos was in full control and knocked out the Polichni team with regular serves against Leno. From the 3rd set onwards, Kapetanidis, the leader of Pegasus, was recruited. He corrected the reception, helped the attack a lot and put in an excellent performance together with Kostas Prousalis. Tzioumakas, Mavrovouniotis and Pegasos then caused the big surprise with a fair win.
With Ristics, Synadinos in the lead and Ramos Perez pushing me after Bake’s serve, Athlos took control of the game from the start with a 2-3 point lead. With two aces from Bake, Ramos built a +5 lead (19-14), which he maintained until the end, when Buiati attacked and made it 1-0 to 25-20.
Athlos also made a strong impression in the second set with the great Ristitis, who together with Sora delivered a real highlight in attack and blocking. The Akrites escaped with Bake’s ace 17-10 to take the second set, which ended 25-17 with two more personal points from Bake.
The game essentially started from the beginning in the 3rd set. With the arrival of Kapetanidis, Pegasos balanced the reception and found solutions in the attack. After ambiguous phases and an upward trend until 11:11, Pegasos came forward with the amazing and passionate Mavrovouniotis, who gave him the decisive 3-0 run to 14:11 with his two attacks and an ace. This was where the cornerstone of the surprise came when Pegasus broke free and Jumaka gradually took control of the game. The set ended 25-18 with Giumaka scoring a point to make the set 2-1.
The 4th movement had the same picture as the 3rd movement. After the 11:11, Kapetanidis and Tzioumakas stepped up for Pegasos. Athlos gave his pleasure. With Ramos’ ace, Bake’s block and Alexakis winning the bouts, the score was 20-20. Tzioumakas with two aces and Kapetanidis with an attack ensured a 3-0 run to make it 23:20. The combative Alexakis and Ristitis kept Athlos in the game and with decisive points (block and attack) they reduced the score to 23-24. Giumakas missed a decisive attack and the score was 24:24. Mavrovouniotis took the lead 25:24, but Richits countered (25:25). But it was fatal because he lost his serve (25-26) and Kapetanidis closed the set with a counterattack at 27-25 and leveled the set at 2-2.
There was a great fight in the tiebreak, which was equalized point by point until the score was 8:8. Tzioumakas with two decisive attacks and Kesesidis with an ace brought Pegasus to 11-8. Athlos didn’t answer and Kapetanidis finished the game 15:9, completing the turnaround and the 3:2 set.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.
