Lokomotiv Kaliningrad head coach Andrey Voronkov received a two-year suspension for making a racist statement about Cuban volleyball player Ailama Sese Montalvo, Match TV reports.
The specialist was suspended from participation in the competitions of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF), disqualification begins from the moment of violation.
Voronkov can appeal the decision to the VFV arbitration, and then to the ROC arbitration and to the CAS.
He received the maximum penalty for this violation. No penalty. The punishment options were different – from 0 to 2 years. The Executive Committee unanimously adopted a decision on disqualification for 2 years. A member of the executive committee of the VFV, Nikolai Karpol, did not take part in the meeting of the executive committee, as he considered that he was an interested person here, – Secretary General of the VFV Alexander Yaremenko told reporters.
Voronkov, during a time-out in the fifth match of the final series of the Russian championship with Uralochka-NTMK on May 12, giving instructions to his players, pulled Valery Zaitseva aside, saying: “Why are you catching this monkey again?” It got on the air of “Match TV”. Cuban winger Montalvo later left the club. It was noted that Voronkov fundamentally refused to apologize to Uralochka and the volleyball player.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.
