“The Spartakiad is necessary and important, first of all, from a sports point of view” – VFV Secretary General
The hopes of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) that the Spartakiad is necessary and important were fully justified, first of all, from a sports point of view, said the Secretary General of the Federation Alexander Yaremenko.
On Sunday, the men’s team of Tatarstan defeated the team of St. Petersburg with a score of 3-0 in the final of the volleyball tournament of the Spartakiad. The women’s tournament will end on August 27.
– The most important thing I want to say is the words of gratitude to the organizers of this competition, our colleagues. And Kazan, and Novosibirsk, and Kaliningrad, and Tula, who organized and held matches at the highest level. Our hopes that this Spartakiad is necessary and important were fully justified, first of all, from a sports point of view. Our best athletes have gained invaluable experience. Before playing these 8 matches in 11 days, I had to go through a rather long stage of preparation from 5 to 6 weeks and participate in matches of a very high level.
As for the final match, both participants deserved the right to play in this super final, they showed their best qualities. Unfortunately, Petersburg did not perform in full force. This could have brightened up the final match even more and made the fight brighter and more intense. But we already saw wonderful volleyball, very bright game moments. Our level of volleyball is at a really worthy world level.
When organizing such a global event, it is difficult to do everything 100% perfectly. Therefore, there may be some roughness. But we overcome them and overcame them thanks to our fellow organizers. All this was organized at the highest level, including broadcasts, hall branding, support for fans, work in social networks. In the future, this will greatly affect our general sports level and the popularity of volleyball in Russia.
We are waiting for no less bright matches of women’s teams and no less bright final. Therefore, we will continue to follow the development of these competitions. In these competitions, our coaches, organizers, heads of gyms and clubs got a really great positive experience in the new conditions. The sports level of these competitions turned out to be what they expected. It is difficult to assess the significance of these competitions today, but I am sure that this will have a positive impact on our sport and on the national team, and on all athletes. Thanks to all the participants, coaches and players for their sincere professional attitude,” Yaremenko told reporters.
