A single day without glitches: this is what Simone Boilard (St Michel – Auber93 WE) had wanted for a few days in the women’s Tour de France. The Quebecer was able to avoid all the obstacles on Friday to climb to 16e rank of the sixth stage of the Grande Boucle.
” Finally ! No bad luck today! I rode hard from start to finish. I was a bit hesitant about the ending, but hey, no excuses. I’m happy with my 16e place,” said Boilard.
The Frenchwoman Marie Le Net (FDJ – SUEZ – Futuroscope) was the last survivor of the breakaway of the day, who fled after 50 kilometers of racing. She was finally caught 5 kilometers from the finish by the forty cyclists who made up the peloton. A mass sprint was launched a few moments later and it was the holder of the yellow jersey Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) who won.
The Dutchwoman got her hands on her second stage victory since the start of the Tour, she who has never been excluded from the top-5 in six stages. The bonus seconds won thanks to the victory of the day even accentuate his lead in the provisional general classification.
Olivia Baril (Travel – Valcar & Service), 112e of the day (+13 minutes 14 seconds), was once again able to see her Italian teammate Silvia Persico go all out to try to join Marianne Vos at the top of the provisional general classification. Persico had to settle for fifth on Friday and is now 30 seconds behind Vos overall.

The strategy remains the same for Valcar – Travel & Service, which wishes to win the general classification. That said, we are starting to run out of solutions to overcome Marianne Vos, who seems unbeatable.
“We want to win the general classification, but how? We really don’t know,” said Olivia Baril.
Magdeleine Vallières-Mill (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) for her part ended the day at 49e echelon (+24 seconds) after helping her American teammates Veronica Ewers (40e) and Krista Doebel-Hickok (44e).
“Everything went really well today. I worked so that my teammates were in good shape on the climbs. They shouldn’t expend too much energy, because I think there are still chances to improve Veronica’s rank in the general classification”, affirmed Vallières-Mill, mentioning that the American will definitely be to be monitored during the last two stages.
“I’m starting to really enjoy stage races. I hope I will still like it at the end of the Tour. I feel better and better every day, it’s really encouraging,” she added.
The seventh and penultimate stage of the Tour de France women will be held on Saturday between Sélestat and Le Markstein. Several imposing climbs, some of which approach 10% inclination are on the program.
