By entering the NFL Week 4we have a much clearer view of how we think certain offenses will behave and generals based on certain pairs. Another week of game data helps us either solidify our preseason predictions (Josh Allen QB1) or deviate from things we expected (Derek Carr to be a solid starter). However, our ranking of Fantasy NFL to help you navigate the critical decisions of who to put in and/or who to sit out in hopes of ending up with a win.
The top of our rankings doesn’t change much, but you might be surprised to see it Russell Wilson (@Raiders in Week 4) at No. 5 this week. We think Wilson is poised for an effective performance against a Raiders defense that has struggled to find its rhythm early. Just allowed in Las Vegas Ryan Tannehill will throw for over 250 yards and score two TDs (one pass and one run). Other than Wilson, no other QB ranked in the top 10 should come as a surprise, but Tua Tagovailoa (@Bengals) officially makes our top ten for Miami’s Thursday night game against Cincinnati.

Tagovailoa appeared to be out for the rest of Miami’s Week 3 game against Buffalo after injuring his back, but returned in the second half and threw a huge third-and-22 to Jalen Waddle. Mac Jones (ankle) was injured late in the Patriots’ 37-26 loss to the Ravens. Brian Hoyer (@Packers) is a pretty capable backup for New England, but still not considered elite. Also, Zach Wilson ( @Steelers ) looks set to make his season debut after suffering a knee injury in Week 1 of the preseason. Wilson is also not worth starting this weekbut he could be worth keeping an eye on as a backup option in the near future given the underrated weapons at his disposal.
One of our biggest drivers in Week 4 is Jared Goff (against the Seahawks), as he has anchored an impressive Lions offense and has a juicy matchup against Seattle. Goff is coming off a solid performance in Detroit’s 28-24 loss at Minnesota, throwing for 277 yards and a touchdown.. The Lions have relied on their backs (specifically Jamaal Williams) near the goal line, but the fact that Detroit can move the ball up and down the field may lead to Goff producing better TDs this season. Instead, Carson Wentz ( @Cowboys ) is one of the biggest fallers after his underwhelming performance against the Eagles. He can put up some last-minute stats against the Cowboys, but we don’t want to test him against another tough defense.

You would actually start Goff instead of a regular with a tough matchup, like Matthew Stafford (@49ers) or Aaron Rodgers (against Patriots)? We wouldn’t, but there’s a chance it might. Rodgers had a decent day against an equally tough defense in Tampa Bay last week, and Stafford still has an impressive array of weapons to help him put up stats. The same happens with me Tom Brady (against the Chiefs), who will get back Mike Evans (suspension) and possibly Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Patrick Mahomes (against the Buccaneers) despite their disappointing last two games.
Some other QBs that might be worth starting in Week 4 include; Marcus Mariota (vs. Browns), James Winston (vs. Vikings) and Jimmy Garoppolo (vs Aries). The Browns defense had one of its most complete performances last Thursday night against the Steelers, but defenses generally didn’t have much trouble slowing down the offense led by Mitchell Trubisky. Mariota always has a decent floor if he can limit the turnovers. Winston will be ally in a potential penalty, and the Rams are much less intimidating in passing than they appear on paper. Further down our rankings, Geno Smith (@Lions) and Jacoby Brissett (@Falcons) aren’t the worst picks in deep leagues.
