The young German, who escaped death in 2018, is now following in Verstappen’s footsteps

Sofia Fleurs, the 23-year-old driver who survived one of modern motorsport’s worst crashes at the 2018 Macau F3 GP, has now signed with the Max Verstappen-backed team for her first full season in FIA Formula 3.

This is the Van Amersfoort team, with which the three-time Dutch Formula 1 champion completed his only season in smaller vehicle classes in 2014. Although his jump from karting straight to Formula 3 was huge, Max was impressive in his one season and was immediately signed by Red Bull to make his debut with Toro Rosso in Formula 1 in 2015, marking an even bigger leap in his career meant.

The young German Sophia Fleurs is a driver at the Alpine Academy and will contest her first full season in FIA Formula 3 in 2024, two levels ahead of Formula 1. Many consider her to be the best prepared driver, the first modern female driver in Formula 1 , some three decades after Giovanna Amati (although the last to start a GP was Lela Lombardi in 1976).

Fleurs has competed in several individual races with Van Amersfoort, including this year’s Macau GP, where he finished 11th, and his continued improvement has convinced Alpine and the Dutch team that he deserves one of the cockpits for the entire 2024 F3 season .

That year he also drove a few F3 races with PHM Racing by Charouz, scoring all six points the team scored that season. She is the only woman confirmed to drive the entire 2024 racing season in F3 and F2. With Van Amersfoort she gets a much more competitive background to further develop her skills.

Sofia Fleurs competed with VAR when she had her horrific accident in Macau in 2018, from which she was miraculously saved. Cadillac F1 Driver: Truly an incredible day. We should be proud of this

Sergio Perez shared his feelings after his first trip to the track for the Cadillac team.

Just 10.5 months after receiving final approval from the FIA to become the 11th team in the championship, Perez found himself behind the wheel at the Silverstone circuit, where the car completed its first laps on the day of filming.

The team, wearing all black uniforms, confirmed that they carried out all system checks during the run.

“Today was truly an incredible day,” Perez said

Everyone should be proud as we completed our first tours as a team. Every member of the team worked on this moment and it was very emotional for me.

We can and should enjoy it, but it also gives us even more energy. I want to get behind the wheel as soon as possible; This is just the beginning.”

“This was a great opportunity for the team to get a feel for operating in a real garage environment, test the car’s systems and troubleshoot initial issues. But this is just the beginning of the journey. We are now focusing on pre-season testing in a few weeks, which will provide further learning opportunities.”
