Djokovic’s father in the photo with the Russian flag: ‘I had no intention of causing this disruption, we lived the nightmare of war’
Novak Djokovic’s father, Serjan, said in a statement that he did not want to cause trouble by holding the Russian flag with Putin’s face on it and that his family only wished for peace. He wasn’t at Rod Laver Arena for his son’s fight with Paul.
Novak Djokovic’s father Serjan caused a stir with the photo he took with a Putin supporter after his son’s match at the Australian Open and issued a clarifying statement in which he of course apologized.
In particular, he stated that he did not want to be involved in the specific incident and only wanted to take photos with Nole supporters, while stressing that his family has experienced war and is only praying for peace.
“I’m only here to support my son. I had no intention of creating all that headline news and excitement.
As with all my son’s games, I was with Novak fans to celebrate his wins and take a picture with them. I had no intention of getting involved. My family has lived through the nightmare of war and only wants peace.
So there will be no excitement for my son or the other player in the semifinals. I decided to watch it from home. I’m hoping for a good game and will cheer for my son as alwaysSerjan Djokovic, who was not at Rod Laver Arena for his son’s match with Paul, said in a statement.

Russian Karen Khachanov moved from 18th to 17th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a new version of which was published on the organization’s website.
