OFI – Panathinaikos 0-3: Easy passage for the greens of Crete
Panathinaikos defeated OFI 3-0 in about an hour at BAK on the opening day of the men’s volleyball league.
It took Panathinaikos just under an hour – 57 minutes – to defeat the decimated OFI in Heraklion with a 3-0 set in the inaugural Volley League. The Greens played with a composition, without changes and for the first time in the basic formation, Xenophon Grumousas started as the main libero.
OFI was unlucky to play with two missing key athletes who, although asymptomatic, tested positive for the coronavirus in the rapid tests that preceded the game 24 hours before the start of the game. They are Brazilian passer Enrique Adami and Botswana diagonal Igobe Shikuku.
Grigoris Bardakjian played as a key passer. Diagonal in the first and third sets winger Nikos Gonas and in the second set Dimitris Tsalikian, but the gap in attack was finally closed by Ambrao, who was hopelessly alone.
As can be seen from the fluctuation, Panathinaikos was never threatened during the game. Kovar and Hernandez each scored 14 points and were outstanding offensively for last year’s champions.
In the first set with a block by Rangel, Panathinaikos escaped 12-7, OFI lost to Hira 13-14 while Vaiopoulos equalized 17-17. A 3-0 run from Kovar, Frago, Panathinaikos saw him take a 20-17 lead before Petraeus served to finish the set with a 4-0 run at 25-19.
In the second set, Panathinaikos escaped Jacobsen’s serve 16-5 with a long 7-0 run and the set ended with a point from Kovar at 25-16.
In the 3rd set, OFI struggled to 9-11 when they lost to Ambrao, but from there Panathinaikos held the difference with Kovar and Hernandez and achieved the win.

A doctor from the Yenisei volleyball club provided emergency assistance to a child on board the plane
The doctor of the men’s volleyball club “Yenisei” from Krasnoyarsk, Shakhriyar Mirzoev, provided emergency assistance to the boy on board the plane.
The incident happened during the New Year holidays on the Kazan-Krasnoyarsk flight. The specialist noticed that the man and child were in the toilet for 20 minutes, and the flight attendant came in there periodically.
“I approached and saw that a boy of about nine was standing at the sink filled with water and blood. At that moment, the flight attendant began to ask if there was a doctor on board, to which I replied: “I’m a doctor, I’ll help now.”
I tried to stop the bleeding using cotton wool and improvised means that the conductors had, applying cold to the bridge of the nose. But this had no effect – everything was soaked in blood. The bleeding did not stop for about 20 minutes.
I tried to calm the child down and began to think about what to do next. I asked the flight attendants for a first aid kit and found ampoules of adrenaline there. Having opened two ampoules, I soaked two cotton pads with the solution and inserted them deep into the child’s nose. After a couple of minutes, I saw that the blood had stopped,” AiF Krasnoyarsk quotes Mirzoev as saying.
The child came to his senses. As it turned out, the boy had undergone surgery to remove his adenoids the day before, which probably caused the bleeding.

Novosibirsk Lokomotiv defeated Moscow MSTU in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.

Volleyball players of St. Petersburg “Zenith” beat “Nova” and won their fifth victory in a row in the Super League
St. Petersburg “Zenith” defeated “Nova” from Novokuybyshevsk in the match of the 18th round of the Russian Volleyball Championship.
The meeting in St. Petersburg ended with a score of 3–2 (25:17, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25, 15:13). Zenit extended its winning streak in the Super League to five matches.
In other matches of the day, Zenit Kazan beat Krasnoyarsk Yenisey at home – 3-1 (25:18, 25:20, 25:27, 25:20), the Dynamo-LO club (Sosnovy Bor) defeated Kemerovo Kuzbass at home – 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:20).
