Lokomotiv’s goalkeeper, European champion and five-time Russian champion Yana Shcherban talked about the differences in the training process between Russian and Italian clubs. The volleyball player spent part of last season at Epiu Casalmaggiore in the Apennines.
“Everything in Italy is completely different than in Russia. I don’t know how it is in the leading clubs, but in Epiu Casalmaggiore we experienced the opposite of the Russian training system: training is much shorter and more intense – a maximum of one and a half to two hours a day.
Based on my experience, I can say that in Europe there is a balance between training work and players’ free time. Here you can add a completely different mindset, where a constant inner positive prevails regardless of the outcome. We can say that I have re-learned to play volleyball in the Apennines and it is useful to spend my free time, which is much more than before, ”Shcherban says, “Sports day by day.”
